Q & A

WITH GXG

Q: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR AESTHETIC?

GxG: My aesthetic is clean, classic and sophisticated. Yet budget friendly.

Q: IS LANDSCAPING IMPORTANT TO YOU?

GxG: Landscaping is extremely important to me. I have a childhood connection to landscaping. My mother had an incredible green thumb, and always took me to gardens around the world. But after living in places where the climate is frozen half of the year, I realized how important indoor-outdoor living is to me. My landscape aesthetic complements the climate that you're in. So in LA, I like to use drought tolerant landscaping that still provides a lush feeling, whether it be tropical or Mediterranean or English garden type - all done with a limited amount of water, environmentally conscious.

Q: IT'S MY FIRST PROJECT - WHAT KIND OF PROJECT WOULD YOU SUGGEST TO START WITH AS AN INVESTMENT PROPERTY?

GxG: I would suggest starting with a duplex or a single family home with an ADU or an option to add ADU because there's nothing like living in your own house rent free.

Q: WHAT MAKES LA A GREAT MARKET?

GxG: The demand for indoor-outdoor living year round, paired with its access to nature's wonders, and cultural institutions makes LA an incredible destination. And with the arrival in the past 15 years of tech from New York and San Francisco, LA is no longer a monoculture. It's really created a lot of demand. And demand just keeps spreading east into untapped neighborhoods.

Q: YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT ART -

DOES THAT MANIFEST INTO YOUR DESIGN?

GxG: It absolutely incorporates into who I am and how I see spaces. Art and contemporary art has made me really aware of clean lines and curvature or angles in a space and how to enhance the existing the existing bones of a space. Giving it architectural and art interest.

Q: DO YOU INCORPORATE THE AESTHETIC OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD INTO YOUR DESIGN?

GxG: Absolutely. I think one of the greatest travesties is when you have an eyesore on your street that doesn't match anything in the surrounding area. And that doesn't mean you can't go modern or contemporary. Contemporary can be done in an aesthetically conscious way when considering the design of your neighborhood.
